Delhi to deploy 200 electric buses this month, targeting 7,500 fleet total by year end

By Eve

Delhi will add 200 electric buses to its public transport network this month, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced during a review meeting with the Transport Department and Delhi Transport Corporation. The city currently operates over 4,000 electric buses and plans to expand the fleet to 7,500 units by the end of 2025. Charging infrastructure is operational in 44 bus depots, with 36 additional depots under development through the PM e-Drive Phase I scheme.

Why it matters: The 3,500 bus expansion represents one of India's largest municipal EV procurement programmes and signals sustained demand for depot charging installations. Contractors and charge point operators should note the 36 depot build out under central government funding, which may follow standardised technical specifications.
