Delhi seeks central funds for residential EV charging after missing 18,000-point target

The Delhi government will approach India's Centre for financial support under the PM E-Drive scheme to expand EV charging infrastructure in residential areas, shifting away from cost-sharing with residents' welfare associations. The previous EV policy aimed to install around 18,000 public and semi-public charging points by 2024 but delivered fewer than 2,500 stations, with officials citing RWA reluctance to bear up to 50% of installation costs. Delhi Transco Limited will now act as the nodal agency for planning and implementation under the new framework.
Why it matters: The policy pivot signals a potential surge in publicly funded residential charging tenders across Delhi, removing the cost-sharing barrier that stalled earlier rollouts.
