Depot Charging Scheme reopens 28 October with £38m for fleet infrastructure

By Eve

The UK Government's Depot Charging Scheme will open its second funding window on 28 October 2026, running to 29 January 2027, with £38m available for commercial fleet charging infrastructure supporting zero emission HGVs, vans and coaches. The scheme is part of a £170m multi year commitment to 2030, following an initial £28m window in March 2026 that covered 70% of charge point and civil costs up to £1m per organisation. Funded projects must be delivered by 31 March 2028, with works expected to begin from April 2027.

Why it matters

Fleet operators and charge point installers have a three month window to secure substantial public funding for depot infrastructure, with grant rates and exact terms for this phase still to be confirmed. The scheme's structure, limiting applications to one per organisation but not capping site numbers, shapes how CPOs and contractors must approach multi site fleet electrification projects.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
