Australia hits 24 EVs per public charger as adoption outpaces infrastructure rollout

Australia's EV to charger ratio reached 24 to 1 in 2025, considerably higher than expected for a maturing market, according to the HERE Technologies and SBD Automotive electric vehicle index released Thursday. The report, which surveyed over 4,000 motorists and ranked EV adoption and charging infrastructure across the US, UK, India, Europe and Australia, found NSW and the ACT lead in EV readiness while Tasmania and Western Australia lag. The findings follow record August EV sales in which battery electric vehicles outsold petrol, diesel and hybrid models for the first time.
