Emaldo opens solar backed DC fast charging site with 218 kWh storage per charger in Sweden

By Eve

Energy storage specialist Emaldo has launched a DC fast charging site in Rockneby, Sweden, along the E22 highway, using ZOE Energy Storage's Z BOX-EV technology. The site features two DC fast chargers, each delivering up to 180 kW and backed by 218 kWh of integrated battery storage, enabling a combined 360 kW charging capacity despite a modest 63 A grid connection. On-site solar generation and Emaldo's energy management system support the chargers, addressing grid capacity limitations and connection costs typical of high power charging deployments outside urban areas.

Why it matters

This deployment demonstrates a replicable model for CPOs and infrastructure developers to overcome grid constraints in rural or highway locations, where traditional high power charging would face prohibitive upgrade costs. The combination of solar, battery storage and dynamic power management offers a pathway to expand fast charging networks without waiting for grid reinforcement.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
