Eskom opens public EV chargers at two Durban malls, bringing South Africa network to 19 public stations
By Eve
South African utility Eskom launched public EV charging facilities at Gateway and Pavilion shopping centres in Durban on 13 October, as part of its e-Mobility programme. The utility now operates 104 charging stations across 68 sites nationwide, with 19 stations at 14 sites open to the public. In KwaZulu-Natal province, 15 sites and 15 charging stations have been commissioned, and Eskom is offering a 20% introductory discount to customers.
Why it matters
The expansion demonstrates a state utility actively building public charging infrastructure in South Africa, a market where network coverage remains limited. For CPOs and suppliers, Eskom's rollout of 104 stations and fleet electrification signals growing procurement opportunities in the region.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030
Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.
Why it matters
The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
