CCS2 bidirectional charging goes mainstream in Australia with four CEC approved units now available

Australia has moved from CHAdeMO only bidirectional charging to four CEC approved CCS2 vehicle to home systems as of April 2026, covering 95% of new EVs on Australian roads including Tesla, BYD, Kia and Hyundai models. One unit listed on 31 March 2026 is priced at approximately $5,990 including GST, nearly 40% cheaper than earlier offerings. The shift marks the end of trial phases and enables mass market vehicle to grid capability for Australian households.
Why it matters: CPOs and installers can now offer bidirectional charging to the vast majority of EV owners rather than a niche CHAdeMO segment, opening a significant new revenue stream in residential energy management. The price drop to under $6,000 and regulatory approval removes two major barriers to commercial rollout of vehicle to home services.
