Minnesota allocates over 41 million dollars for DC fast chargers on US and state highways

MnDOT will invest more than 41 million dollars in direct current fast charging stations under the third round of National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) programme funding. The agency has identified 74 eligible location clusters along US and state highways, each requiring at least four DC fast charging ports with a minimum capacity of 150 kilowatts, spaced every 50 to 75 miles. MnDOT expects eventual station utilisation of 15 to 20 per cent as the network expands beyond interstate corridors already under contract.

Why it matters: The 74 site clusters represent a significant procurement pipeline for charge point operators and equipment suppliers targeting rural and secondary highway corridors. The 150 kilowatt minimum and four port requirement per site set clear technical specifications for bidders in upcoming tenders.
