Himachal Pradesh mandates EV charging points in all new real estate and commercial buildings

The Himachal Pradesh government has made EV charging infrastructure compulsory in commercial, public, semi-public and new real estate projects under the Himachal Pradesh Town and Country Planning (17th Amendment) Rules, 2026. Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani said the move aligns with model building bye-laws and supports the state's green energy goals as India's EV market grows rapidly, with electric passenger vehicle sales crossing one lakh units annually. Major automakers including Tata Motors, Mahindra, MG Motor, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki now operate in the EV segment, alongside two-wheeler brands such as Hero Vida, TVS, Ather Energy and Bajaj Auto.
