Hyundai unveils all-electric STARIA Cargo van with 800 V architecture and 450 km range

By Eve

Hyundai Motor Europe has announced the STARIA Cargo, an all-electric light commercial vehicle featuring an 84 kWh lithium ion battery delivering up to 450 km WLTP range. The van's 800 volt charging architecture enables 10% to 80% DC fast charging in 20 minutes at compatible ultra-rapid stations, supported by an 11 kW onboard AC charger for overnight and depot use. Set to debut at the Paris Motor Show press day on 12 October 2026, the N1-type three-seat panel van offers 1,040 kg payload capacity, 5.462 cubic metre cargo volume accommodating three Euro pallets, and 218 PS power output.

Why it matters

The 800 V platform and sub-20-minute rapid charging window position STARIA Cargo as a credible zero-emission option for urban logistics fleets, raising the bar for depot and en-route charging infrastructure planning. Fleet operators and charge point operators in Turkey and wider Europe will need to ensure DC charger compatibility and power availability to support commercial adoption from late 2026.

Four trim levels are available, with the mid-range Trend and Prime variants delivering 482 km and 476 km respectively from 61 kWh batteries.

Why it matters

The Izmit production launch establishes Turkey as a manufacturing hub for Hyundai's compact EV exports across Europe and beyond, potentially driving demand for charging infrastructure to support both domestic sales and factory operations. The model's competitive pricing and range options position it to accelerate EV adoption in the Turkish market, where charging network expansion will be critical to support growing electric vehicle volumes.

Hyundai confirms IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 7 electric SUVs to plug range gaps

Hyundai has announced two new electric SUVs, the IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 7, to fill segments between its existing IONIQ 3, IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 models. The IONIQ 4 will compete in the B segment SUV market against the Kia EV3 and Renault 4 E-Tech, with Chris McKinnon, vice president of product at Hyundai Europe, confirming the segment is important for the brand in an interview with Auto Express. The IONIQ 7 will sit between the IONIQ 5 and the seven seat IONIQ 9 in the range.

Why it matters

The expansion of Hyundai's IONIQ line into two additional SUV segments signals intensifying competition in the European electric vehicle market, which may drive demand for workplace and public charging infrastructure as fleet operators and consumers adopt these new models. The B segment focus suggests a push towards more affordable EVs, potentially broadening the charging network user base.

Hyundai Ioniq 3 draws record UK prelaunch interest at £18,495 entry price

Hyundai's Ioniq 3 compact electric hatchback, priced from £18,495 (around $25,000) after the UK's £3,750 Electric Car Grant, has generated more prelaunch registrations than any previous Hyundai model in the UK, the company announced following order opening on 5 October. The entry Advance trim pairs a 42 kWh battery with 213 miles WLTP range, while an extended range version with 61 kWh offers 308 miles from £21,995, undercutting rivals including the Renault 5 E-Tech at £21,495 and BYD Dolphin G DM-i at £23,990.

Why it matters

A sub £20,000 long range EV entering the UK market in volume could accelerate fleet electrification and workplace charging demand among cost conscious operators. The strong prelaunch response signals potential for higher EV adoption rates in segments that have previously found new electric models prohibitively expensive.
