India reports 52,718 public EV charging stations including 16,561 fast chargers

India's public EV charging network has reached 52,718 stations, of which 16,561 are fast chargers for electric cars, according to a government statement to the Lok Sabha. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has allocated 912.50 crore rupees under the FAME II scheme and 2,000 crore rupees under the PM E-DRIVE scheme for charging infrastructure expansion. The Ministry of Power has issued 2024 guidelines for interoperable charging networks and classified charging station installation as an unlicensed activity to encourage private sector involvement.
