Janus Electric secures $45 million in California contracts for 67 diesel to electric truck conversions

Australian firm Janus Electric has won contracts worth approximately $45 million from four California fleets (Golden State Express, Tradelink Transport, King Fio Trucking and Wehaco) to convert 67 diesel trucks to electric, bringing its total order book to 112 conversions across North America. The orders, serving the Los Angeles and Long Beach freight and port drayage markets, follow a $10 million, 16 unit order from Ability Tri-Modal announced earlier this week. California state and local incentives effectively reduce the net cost of Janus conversions to near zero, with additional support lowering battery swap and charging station expenses.
Why it matters: The contracts signal growing commercial traction for retrofit electrification in heavy duty trucking, backed by California subsidy structures that make conversion economics competitive with new electric vehicles. Two customers are led by a founding member of the Harbor Trucking Association, whose 33,500 truck membership represents a substantial pipeline for future charging infrastructure and conversion work.
