Laos to study converting state fuel stations into EV fast-charging hubs
By Eve
Lao State Fuel Company and Electricité du Laos signed an agreement on 24 July to assess installing fast chargers at state fuel stations nationwide, supporting both CCS Type 2 and China's GB/T standards. The feasibility study will also examine converting stations into multi-service energy hubs with retail and food outlets. Authorities aim to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products while leveraging the country's hydropower generation capacity.
Why it matters: The initiative signals a state-led infrastructure rollout model that could accelerate charging network deployment across Laos, creating procurement opportunities for dual-standard fast-charging equipment and ancillary services. For CPOs and suppliers, the conversion of existing fuel retail sites offers ready-made locations with grid connections and customer footfall.
