Maryland awards $3.7 million for 24 fast-charging ports across five counties

Maryland has conditionally awarded five public fast-charging projects that will add 24 ports in Prince George's, Frederick, Montgomery, Charles and Baltimore counties, with Tesla, ElectraStop and Universal EV among the recipients. The projects will receive approximately $3.7 million in federal NEVI funding plus around $918,000 in private matching funds, with stations expected to open by late 2028. Since Maryland launched its NEVI programme in 2024, 70 public fast-charging ports have opened and another 104 from earlier rounds remain in the pipeline, according to Baltimore Fishbowl.
