Penang Island City Council to double supervised charging bays to 188 by December
By Eve
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will add 94 new EV charging bays by December, doubling its supervised network from 94 to 188 bays, according to The Star. Of the existing 94 MBPP bays, 92 are DC fast chargers (60kW to 120kW, charging 20% to 80% in 30 to 60 minutes) and two are 22kW AC chargers. Another 261 privately operated bays bring the island's current total to 355.
Why it matters: The expansion addresses charging access for high rise residents and signals growing municipal commitment to public infrastructure, creating potential opportunities for charge point operators and equipment suppliers in Malaysia's urban EV rollout.
