Mobile charging robots with 100 kWh batteries serve 400 EVs in Nanning without grid upgrades

A self-guided charging robot called Energy Tank, developed by Eraergy, is now serving more than 400 electric vehicles in the Linliqiao Jiayuan community in Nanning, China, according to Nanning Evening newspaper. The 1.5 metre tall unit carries a roughly 100 kWh battery pack and navigates to parked cars on demand via a phone app, recharging a vehicle from 10 percent state of charge in about 40 minutes to an hour. The solution requires no grid retrofit and does not occupy fixed parking spots, making it suitable for older housing complexes where physical constraints have blocked traditional charger installation.
Why it matters: The deployment demonstrates a commercially viable alternative to fixed infrastructure in dense urban areas where grid capacity and space are limited, potentially opening procurement pathways for housing associations and property managers who face high civil costs.
