Morrisons Tiverton site seeks four rapid chargers as MFG pushes 800-unit rollout

By Eve

Motor Fuel Group has applied to install four 150 kW ultra-rapid EV chargers at the Morrisons Kennedy Way store in Tiverton, enabling eight vehicles to charge simultaneously. MFG, which operates over 900 UK forecourts and partnered with Morrisons in 2024, is targeting 800 ultra-rapid chargers within five years. The planning agent noted that the UK has 87,796 public chargers as of January 2025 and would need to install 13,263 units per quarter to meet the government's 300,000 target by 2030, a 650 per cent increase on current build rates.

Why it matters: The application underscores the gap between UK policy ambition and delivery pace, with MFG's 800-charger pipeline representing a material share of the quarterly volume needed to close the shortfall. For CPOs and contractors, the 650 per cent acceleration implies a sharp uptick in tender activity and site development work over the next five years.
