BMW confirms i3 Touring estate with 559 mile range as part of Neue Klasse EV platform

By Eve

BMW has unveiled the i3 Touring estate variant alongside the saloon, both offering a 559 mile range from a 108kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery and dual electric motors. The i3 and iX3 SUV are the first models under BMW's Neue Klasse platform, a complete redesign for the electric era. BMW Group chief Oliver Zipse said the Touring will appeal to business customers and families, though boot capacity has not yet been published.

Why it matters: The 559 mile range positions the i3 as the longest range EV in the UK, potentially reducing charging infrastructure anxiety for fleet operators. The Neue Klasse platform signals BMW's commitment to purpose built electric architecture, which may influence future procurement specifications for corporate and public sector fleets.
