US power outages now monthly as ageing grid and weather strain reliability

A widely shared analysis claims the United States has experienced at least one major power outage every month in 2026, with 450,000 customers losing supply in Pennsylvania in April, over 130,000 in Texas in recent weeks, and 210,000 outage events across 46 states in March alone. Around 70 per cent of outages stem from severe weather, while 20 per cent result from equipment failure, much of it dating to the 1960s and 1970s. The pattern is driving homeowners toward solar and battery systems to maintain power during grid failures.
