Nio opens 9,460 square foot R&D centre in Witney, consolidating 10 years of UK engineering operations

Nio has launched a new research and development facility in Witney, Oxfordshire, merging its previous sites at Begbroke Science Park and Bicester Motion into a single 9,460 square foot operation. The centre includes dedicated computer aided engineering workspace and a vehicle laboratory. Since establishing its UK base in 2016, Nio's Oxfordshire team has contributed to vehicle programmes including the EP9 supercar, the ET9 flagship and the Firefly compact EV.
Why it matters: The consolidation signals Nio's continued investment in UK engineering capability as Chinese manufacturers expand European operations, potentially creating opportunities for local suppliers and charging infrastructure partners as the brand develops new electric vehicle platforms for European markets.
