NYC public EV chargers face usability gap as garage fees and hours limit real-world access

Analysis of NYC's EV charging dataset, last updated 5 May 2026, reveals that a four-hour Level 2 session at Bay Ridge Municipal Parking Garage costs approximately $19.81 before taxes, combining $12.25 parking with roughly $7.56 for 28 kWh of electricity. The data highlights that public chargers inside municipal garages carry parking fees, operating hours, and dwell-time constraints that affect whether drivers can realistically use the infrastructure.
Why it matters: Procurement teams and CPOs planning urban charging networks must account for total cost of use and operational constraints beyond hardware deployment, as garage fees and access hours can render installed chargers impractical for target users.
