Odisha plans 190 public EV charging sites across six cities under PM E-DRIVE scheme

The Odisha State Transport Authority has submitted a proposal to India's Ministry of Heavy Industries to install public EV charging stations at 190 new locations in Angul, Balasore, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kalinganagar and Puri under the PM E-DRIVE programme. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited will act as project implementation agency and conduct site feasibility surveys before final approvals. The state currently has around 100 public charging stations, with EVs accounting for only 9 to 10 per cent of total vehicle sales.
Why it matters: The near doubling of Odisha's public charging network represents a significant procurement opportunity for charge point operators and equipment suppliers, particularly as BHEL leads site assessments. Addressing range anxiety through expanded infrastructure could unlock demand in a state where limited charging access has constrained EV adoption to single digit market share.
