US public EV charging network reaches 250,000 ports across 80,531 locations

The United States now has just over 250,000 public EV charging ports installed at 80,531 locations, according to the Alternative Fuels Data Center. The expansion has been driven by federal funding for fast chargers along travel corridors and retail companies installing Level 2 and fast chargers at shopping centres, convenience stores, restaurants, libraries and community centres. The milestone represents progress towards the Biden administration's target of 500,000 public EV chargers by 2030.
Why it matters: The 250,000 port milestone provides procurement teams and charge point operators with a benchmark for network density and competitive positioning as federal funding continues to flow through state programmes. Retail site hosts now have clearer data on national infrastructure growth to inform their own charging installation strategies and partnership decisions.
