Peak Energy to open 4 GWh sodium-ion battery factory in Sacramento with 2027 start

Peak Energy will invest $71 million in a 183,000 square foot manufacturing facility at Sacramento's Metro Air Park, creating 239 jobs and producing 4 GWh of grid scale sodium-ion energy storage systems annually from Q1 2027. The company has secured over 6 GWh in customer commitments and received a $10.5 million CalCompetes tax credit awarded in May 2026. Peak Energy plans to commercialise the first fully passive grid scale energy storage system using sodium-ion technology.
