Polestar cuts US prices by 25,000 dollars after Commerce Department ban on 2027 model year sales

Polestar is offering discounts of 25,000 dollars on its Polestar 4 and Polestar 3 models following a US Commerce Department decision to ban the Swedish brand from selling connected vehicles in America from the 2027 model year, citing cybersecurity concerns linked to parent company Geely Automotive. The discount applies across the model line and brings the Polestar 4 close to the 27,000 dollar Chevrolet Bolt EV as one of the cheapest EVs in the US market. Polestar builds the 3 in South Carolina and the 4 in South Korea, both running Google software.
Why it matters: The regulatory ban and resulting fire sale highlight policy uncertainty for EV brands with Chinese ownership ties, even when manufacturing and software are US or allied sourced. Procurement teams evaluating fleet electrification may find short term bargains but face questions over residual values and long term parts support for affected marques.
