San Francisco launches curbside EV charger programme targeting 100 Level 2 units by 2030
By Eve
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has opened a Curbside Electric Vehicle Charging Permit programme, aiming to install 100 public Level 2 chargers by 2030. Announced in late August and following an April 2025 pilot with Brooklyn startup It's Electric, the scheme allows residents without private garages to apply for chargers on their street, with units available on a first come, first served basis.
Why it matters: The programme creates a structured procurement pathway for qualified charging providers in a major US city where lack of infrastructure has been identified as a key barrier to EV adoption. Renters and multi dwelling residents represent a significant untapped market for public charging operators.
