Tesla launches Remote Meter accessory at $210 to enable dynamic charging without panel upgrades
By Eve
Tesla has released the Tesla Remote Meter for $210, a device that allows Wall Connector installations in homes with limited electrical capacity by enabling Dynamic Power Management. The meter monitors real time household electricity use and adjusts the Wall Connector's charging rate accordingly, avoiding the need for costly panel upgrades in older 100 amp homes or preventing breaker trips in 200 amp properties when multiple high draw appliances run simultaneously. A standard Wall Connector draws up to 48 amps and typically requires a 60 amp breaker.
Why it matters: The accessory lowers the barrier to residential charger deployment by cutting installation costs tied to electrical panel upgrades, potentially expanding the addressable market for home charging hardware. For installers and charge point operators targeting retrofit projects, the Remote Meter offers a simpler specification path in properties with constrained supply.
