Tesla registers Vietnam entity as VinFast holds 92 per cent of Southeast Asia's largest EV market

By Eve

Tesla has registered Tesla Motors Vietnam this month, according to business records, marking its entry into a market where EVs accounted for almost 40 per cent of new car sales in 2025 and sales more than doubled year on year, per International Energy Agency data released in May. Nasdaq listed VinFast currently commands 92 per cent of the domestic EV market, supported by parent conglomerate Vingroup's charging and after sales infrastructure, according to HSC research. Vingroup generated 221.97 trillion dong, equivalent to 8.52 billion US dollars, in revenue in the first half of 2026.

Why it matters

Tesla's formal entry into Vietnam signals intensifying competition in a market where a single incumbent controls charging infrastructure and customer touchpoints, potentially reshaping procurement dynamics for public and commercial charging networks. VinFast's integrated ecosystem and 92 per cent market share present a high barrier for new charge point operators seeking partnerships or site access in the region's fastest growing EV market.

Tesla delivers 486,532 electric vehicles in Q3 2026, down 2.1% year on year but beating analyst forecasts

Tesla delivered 486,532 electric vehicles globally between July and September 2026, a 2.1% decline from the 497,099 units delivered in Q3 2025, according to quarterly results. The year on year comparison is skewed by Q3 2025's artificially inflated US sales, driven by buyers rushing to claim a $7,500 federal tax credit before its removal. Despite the modest annual decline, Tesla's Q3 2026 deliveries exceeded analyst expectations and the company appears to have improved inventory management.

Why it matters

Tesla's delivery volumes signal underlying EV demand trends and influence charging infrastructure planning by CPOs and site hosts. The company's ability to beat forecasts despite losing a major US purchase incentive suggests resilient demand that could sustain charging network expansion investments.

Electric vehicles hit 41.6% market share in France as September registrations double year on year

France registered 65,247 battery electric vehicles in September 2026, up 107.5% on the same month in 2025, giving EVs a 41.6% share of the 156,640 passenger cars sold that month. The figure marks the first time EVs have become the single largest powertrain segment in the French market, ahead of non-plug-in hybrids at 35.5%. The surge follows rising fuel prices and a broader model range at varied price points.

Why it matters

A market where four in ten new cars are battery electric signals accelerating demand for public and workplace charging infrastructure. Charge point operators and site hosts in France face growing pressure to expand networks to match the doubling registration rate.

Tesla cuts in-stock Model 3 prices by $2,750 in Australia, adds $2,000 trade-in bonus

Tesla is offering up to $2,750 off drive-away prices for in-stock Model 3 vehicles in ACT, Tasmania and Victoria, following a similar $3,000 discount on the Model Y. Customers can stack a $2,000 trade-in bonus, valid until end of 2026. Tesla has sold 41,705 EVs in Australia in the first nine months of the year, with 5,775 being Model 3s.

Why it matters

Price cuts on the best-selling EV in Australia signal intensifying competition in the passenger EV market, which may influence fleet procurement decisions and residual value calculations for charge point operators targeting workplace and destination charging.
