Tesla launches prefabricated Accordion Supercharger units cutting installation costs by 20 per cent

Tesla has introduced a new prefabricated Supercharger system called the Accordion unit, which bundles eight V4 stalls and a V4 power cabinet rated at up to 1.2 megawatts into a factory assembled package. The system reduces installation costs by 20 per cent compared to traditional deployments and allows two units, totalling 16 stalls, to be shipped per truck and installed quickly using forklifts. The first site using this approach is already operational in Germany.
Why it matters: The 20 per cent cost reduction and faster deployment model may pressure competing charge point operators to adopt similar prefabrication strategies to remain competitive on project economics. For procurement teams, the standardised, rapid install format could shorten site commissioning timelines and simplify contractor scoping.
