UK charging operators seek buyers as costs rise and competition intensifies
By Eve
British electric vehicle charging companies are approaching rivals for acquisition as they face cash shortages driven by rising costs and intense competition, according to industry executives. Be.EV co-founder Asif Ghafoor predicts mergers and acquisitions will consolidate the market from as many as 150 charge point operators to five or six dominant players. Voltempo chief executive Simon Smith warns that charging is becoming more capital intensive while competition increases, with survival dependent on securing the right sites and achieving fast utilisation rates.
Why it matters: The predicted consolidation from 150 operators to five or six players will reshape procurement strategies and partnership opportunities across the UK charging sector. CPOs and site hosts must assess which operators have the financial resilience and utilisation rates to remain viable long term partners.
