RAW Charging and Landsec commit £24.5m for 1,000 bays across 28 UK retail sites, including 200 at Bluewater

By Eve

RAW Charging has partnered with property operator Landsec on a 20 year deal to install 1,000 charging bays at 28 retail destinations, including Bluewater in Kent, Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth and White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds. The £24.5m programme will deploy 554 AC fast chargers and 446 DC rapid chargers, with 200 bays planned for Bluewater alone, starting with a 24 bay ultra rapid hub this summer and the remainder due in 2027 and 2028. The partnership also includes a replace and upgrade programme for legacy infrastructure that no longer meets current speed, reliability or accessibility standards.

Why it matters

A single retail landlord committing 1,000 bays over 28 sites signals sustained demand for destination charging tenders and creates a multi year pipeline for hardware suppliers and installers. The explicit focus on replacing legacy kit highlights a growing secondary market in retrofit and upgrade work alongside new build rollout.

Believ to install more than 600 chargers across Ayrshire in 15 year council partnership

EV charge point operator Believ has secured a 15 year agreement with three Ayrshire councils to install more than 600 chargers at around 300 locations, with installation beginning in early 2027. The project combines over £2.8m from the Scottish Government's EV Infrastructure Fund with more than £15m in committed capital investment from Believ, delivered alongside Transport Scotland and the Scottish Futures Trust. The rollout includes roughly 180 chargers for East Ayrshire, 210 for North Ayrshire and 220 for South Ayrshire, with passive infrastructure for over 450 additional chargers to enable future upgrades without disruptive roadworks.

Why it matters

This major regional deployment demonstrates how CPOs can secure long term public sector contracts by combining government funding with substantial private capital, creating a scalable model for rural and island charging access. The inclusion of passive infrastructure for 450 additional chargers shows forward planning that reduces future deployment costs and speeds network expansion as EV adoption grows.

Vietnam mandates cross-brand compatibility at public EV chargers from July 2027

Circular 61/2026/TT-BCT, issued by Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, requires public EV charging stations to serve vehicles from multiple manufacturers starting 1 July 2027. Operators must install compatible connectors, charging modes and technical specifications, and station control systems must not restrict charging for publicly declared compatible vehicle configurations. The regulation emphasises technical compatibility without mandating support for all vehicle brands, The Investor reported on 8 October.

Why it matters

The rule forces charging point operators in Vietnam to design infrastructure for interoperability, potentially raising upfront costs but widening the addressable customer base. Procurement teams and OEMs will need to verify that hardware and software meet the new compatibility standards ahead of the July 2027 deadline.

Tesla and Pilot deploy over a dozen Megacharger stations for Semi trucks across US freight corridors

Pilot Travel Centers and Tesla are building more than a dozen megawatt charging stations for Tesla Semi trucks along major US freight routes, with the first site already operational in Ellabell, Georgia. Each station will feature four to eight Megachargers capable of delivering up to 1.2 megawatts per stall, located at Pilot sites along I-5, I-10 and other corridors in California, Indiana, Nevada and Texas. The Ellabell station has six stalls, while a separate Tesla Semi station in Conley, Georgia, has also been energised this week.

Why it matters

This rollout demonstrates how CPOs can secure anchor tenancy by co-locating high power charging infrastructure at established commercial vehicle rest stops, reducing range anxiety for fleet operators. The partnership between North America's largest travel centre network and Tesla establishes a template for scaling heavy duty charging along predictable freight routes.
