Used EV buyers prioritise charging speeds over range, finds dealer survey

By Eve

Two thirds of motor dealers surveyed for Startline's Used Car Tracker report that used electric car buyers are now more interested in charging speeds than outright range. Over half (55%) of dealers say drivers are better informed about their specific range needs, while 50% state that most electric cars now have adequate range for average buyers. The research found 38% of dealers report most used EV buyers seek a 300 mile range, with 23% preferring 400 miles and only 17% accepting 200 miles.

Why it matters

The shift in buyer priorities towards charging speed suggests procurement teams and charge point operators should emphasise rapid charging infrastructure in their planning and marketing. Dealers reporting that 37% still find shorter range models tough to sell indicates continued demand for reliable, fast charging networks to support the used EV market.

Seattle opens applications for 200 curbside Level 2 chargers targeting apartment areas by 2030

Seattle City Light is accepting resident applications for up to 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers to be installed from fall 2027 through 2030, prioritising multifamily housing areas with limited existing charging. The city will review applications and select locations in batches of 40 to 50 sites, with design and permitting starting spring 2027 and each site requiring approximately two weeks of construction. Seattle already operates 58 chargers from an earlier pilot programme.

Why it matters

The resident led application process and phased procurement model offers a replicable framework for cities targeting underserved multifamily housing, with clear timelines for design, permitting and installation that CPOs and contractors can plan around. The batch selection approach creates predictable tender windows for equipment suppliers and installation firms through to 2030.
