VinFast promotes VF 9 electric SUV for Canadian summer road trips with 518 km range

By Eve

VinFast is marketing its seven seat VF 9 electric SUV to Canadian drivers ahead of summer road trip season, highlighting up to 518 km of EPA estimated range, three zone climate control, and Camp Mode that maintains cabin cooling while parked. The company notes that 55 per cent of Canadian summer travel between June and September is by road, with the average Canadian driving 18 hours during the season. One VF 9 owner reported completing a 400 km-plus family trip with the vehicle maintaining comfort throughout.

Why it matters

The push underscores VinFast's effort to position long range electric SUVs as viable for extended Canadian journeys, a key use case for fleet and rental operators evaluating charging infrastructure needs along popular summer routes. Demand for vehicles with Camp Mode and extended range may inform site selection and power capacity planning for charging networks serving tourism corridors.

Tesla confirms Vietnam entry with five hires including charging project developer

Tesla has begun recruiting for five roles in Vietnam, including a charging project developer, after registering Tesla Motors Vietnam LLC in Ho Chi Minh City on 11 September with roughly 77.7 billion dong (approximately $3 million) in charter capital. A Tesla recruiter confirmed the company is officially entering the market, where local EV maker VinFast has captured roughly 36% of new car sales this year. The hiring pattern mirrors Tesla's Thailand entry in September 2022, where it opened orders three months after a similar recruitment drive.

Why it matters

The charging project developer role signals Tesla plans to deploy Superchargers in Vietnam, creating procurement opportunities for construction and electrical contractors. VinFast's 36% market share means Tesla faces established charging infrastructure competition, potentially accelerating buildout timelines to match local expectations.

HESS Belgium supports around 330 Exqui.City buses across Europe and builds retrofit business

HESS Belgium has been set up as a service and expertise centre, bringing together former Van Hool employees after the manufacturer's bankruptcy. Its first pillar is continued support for around 330 Exqui.City buses in operation across Europe, with interventions in Norway, Sweden, France and other countries. The second pillar is local specialised maintenance, including major repairs such as chassis work and software updates, and a third pillar is retrofits, according to an interview with Geert Van Hecke, HESS Key Account Manager International and Manager HESS Belgium.

Why it matters

Operators running Exqui.City fleets now have a named route for ongoing support and specialist maintenance after Van Hool's bankruptcy, which reduces stranded asset risk. The move into retrofits also points to another option for fleet owners weighing life extension against new vehicle purchases.

Waymo selects Toyota bZ4X as next robotaxi, with a Japan test fleet due in 2027

Toyota will build a custom version of the electric bZ4X SUV at its Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, with the Waymo Driver installed and integrated on the same site rather than retrofitted elsewhere. A test fleet will begin operating in Japan in 2027 to test and validate the vehicles, with the UK and other Waymo markets to follow later and no dates given. It is the first vehicle to emerge from the partnership announced in April 2025, and Waymo did not share sensor specifications, unit volumes or per vehicle costs.

Why it matters

A Japanese built robotaxi with factory integrated autonomy points to a future fleet charging load in Tokyo and later the UK, though without volumes or dates it is too early to size depot demand. CPOs and depot developers should treat it as a signal for fleet focused charging, not yet a firm pipeline.
