Volkswagen launches ID. Cross electric SUV at €27,995 with 265 miles range

Volkswagen has opened pre-orders in Germany for the ID. Cross, a compact electric SUV priced from €27,995 (approximately $32,000). The vehicle offers two battery options: a 37 kWh LFP pack and a 52 kWh NMC pack delivering up to 427 km (265 miles) WLTP range, with DC fast charging at 90 kW and 105 kW respectively enabling 10% to 80% recharges in 23 to 24 minutes. Built on the MEB+ platform, the ID. Cross is positioned as the electric equivalent of Volkswagen's best selling T-Cross SUV in Europe.
Why it matters: The sub-€30,000 price point and rapid charging capability signal growing competition in the affordable EV segment, likely driving demand for accessible public and workplace charging infrastructure. Fleet operators and charge point operators targeting mass-market EV adoption will need to accommodate the 90 to 105 kW charging speeds becoming standard in this vehicle class.
