WestLight Energy installs 200 Level 1 chargers at California apartment complex
By Eve
WestLight Energy, the public electricity provider for San Mateo County and Los Baños, has completed a retrofit at Peninsula Pines Apartments in South San Francisco, installing individual Level 1 EV chargers for all 200 plus residents. GoPower acted as technical partner, supplying equipment, installation and ongoing operation and maintenance. The project applies WestLight's strategy of deploying Level 1 charging where appropriate, complemented by Level 2 and DC fast chargers where higher capacity is needed, with the aim of making EV ownership accessible to renters and lower income families.
Why it matters: The project demonstrates a scalable, low cost model for multi family charging procurement, using Level 1 infrastructure to serve all residents at a fraction of typical costs. For CPOs and property developers, it shows how public agencies and technical partners can collaborate to deliver turnkey charging solutions that prioritise access over speed.
