Germany counts 53,300 public DC points but HGV-suitable share remains unclear

By Eve

Germany's Federal Network Agency lists 53,300 publicly accessible DC charging points as of 1 June 2026, yet no official breakdown exists for sites that can accommodate 40 tonne trucks. Electrive's archive review shows HGV charging was largely aspirational in 2018, with early Tesla and NREL megawatt charging trials, before infrastructure began deploying at scale in recent years.

Why it matters: Procurement teams and CPOs targeting the freight sector face a data gap: while Germany's total DC network is documented, identifying which sites meet HGV spatial and power requirements demands manual research, complicating site selection and investment planning for heavy duty charging.
