US zero-emission truck and bus registrations fall 43.6% quarter on quarter to 15,338 units in Q1 2026

Between January and March 2026, 15,338 zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles were registered in the United States, representing 4.3% of the 353,173 total Class 2b to 8 vehicles registered. This marked a 43.6% decline from Q4 2025 and less than half the registrations recorded in Q1 2025. California led with 3,371 zero-emission registrations and a 15.5% share, while the 11 states adopting California's Advanced Clean Trucks regulation accounted for 38.0% of all zero-emission registrations.
Why it matters: The sharp quarterly drop signals weaker near-term demand for electric commercial vehicles, which may slow depot charging infrastructure build-out and affect CPO revenue forecasts. States with ACT mandates remain the core markets for fleet electrification projects, concentrating procurement opportunities in those regions.
