Hindustan Zinc Limited launched Rajasthan's first large-scale electric bus fleet at its Debari zinc smelter in Udaipur on Monday, partnering with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility to deploy 41 electric buses across its Rajasthan operations. The fleet replaces diesel buses for employee transport and is projected to cut more than 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over the contract period, supporting the company's Net Zero target for 2050 or earlier.
Why it matters: The rollout signals growing fleet electrification demand in India's industrial and mining sectors, creating procurement opportunities for bus OEMs and charging infrastructure providers serving large corporate campuses. It also highlights Scope 3 emission reduction as a driver for captive EV transport contracts in heavy industry.
