JBM Auto has launched its next generation GALAXY electric luxury coach at the Prawaas 5.0 event in India. JBM Auto Limited captured over 24 per cent of India's electric bus market in FY26, registering 1,282 units deployed across Telangana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Assam, according to industry data. The manufacturer also held approximately 79 per cent of the electric tarmac bus segment and more than half of the intercity electric luxury coach market during the year. JBM Auto reported an order pipeline exceeding 10,000 electric buses, reflecting strong demand as states expand public transport electrification and private operators adopt cleaner mobility solutions.

Why it matters: The figures confirm JBM Auto as the dominant supplier in India's growing electric bus procurement market, with a substantial backlog signalling sustained fleet electrification by state transport authorities and private operators. The Indian government's PM-eBus Sewa scheme targets deployment of 10,000 air-conditioned electric buses across 116 cities in 26 states and Union Territories by 2027, with a second phase planned to expand the fleet to 35,000 vehicles. As of early 2026, agreements for 6,500 buses have been signed and 225 buses delivered, focusing on tier-2 and tier-3 cities with populations between 300,000 and 4 million. The Public-Private Partnership model is expected to benefit manufacturers including JBM Auto, Tata Motors and Olectra, alongside component and battery suppliers.

Why it matters: The scheme represents a major procurement pipeline for EV bus manufacturers and charging infrastructure providers targeting India's mid-tier cities, where state governments have historically faced high EV financing costs. Electric buses accounted for 4.5% of total bus sales in India during FY26 to 16 February, up from 3.5% in FY25, with 4,158 electric units sold out of 91,574 total buses, according to Vahan data reported by Financial Express. PMI Electro Mobility Solutions led sales with 1,006 units, followed by Switch Mobility with 879, Olectra Greentech with 853 and JBM Auto with 817. Around 1,000 electric buses have been deployed since 1 January across Delhi, Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha, with Delhi adding 500 buses on 9 February in one of the largest single day fleet expansions, driven by the FAME II and PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme.
