Construction materials supplier Tarmac is building a charging network across London and the South East to support five electric HGVs delivering cement, asphalt, aggregates and concrete blocks. The fleet will include four Renault Trucks vehicles and one DAF, with Voltempo supplying infrastructure at four Tarmac sites and a Fleete hub at the Port of Tilbury. A 250kW DC charger at the Paddington concrete plant will enable recharging during unloading, while a Voltempo HyperCharger megawatt system at Northfleet will deliver up to 1MW to one vehicle or dynamically distribute capacity across up to six vehicles. The project is part of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium and supported by the UK government's Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme.

Decade Energy and Renault Trucks have launched a battery storage backed charging station at Renault Trucks Grand Paris in Gennevilliers, France. The installation combines a 250kW grid connection, an 11kW/kWh BESS, and a 200kW DC charger with two charging points, delivering around 140MWh of electricity per year to support 14,000 electric kilometres annually for heavy duty vehicles. Decade Energy's energy management software optimises real time energy use from the grid or storage based on charging demand, site constraints and electricity pricing, while the system can generate revenue by selling stored energy to the energy market when not in use.

Why it matters: The project demonstrates how battery storage can boost charging power for heavy duty fleets without straining grid infrastructure, a model that could inform future depot and logistics site procurements. The ability to monetise stored energy during idle periods may improve the business case for similar installations across Europe.
