Toronto software firm ChargeLab has raised its ChargeLab Rewards payout to 10 cents per kWh for single-family homeowners in Canada, funded partly by carbon credits earned under Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations. The company reports average customers charge over 3,500 kWh per year, yielding more than CA$350 annually. The programme works with existing OCPP-compatible chargers from Autel, Leviton, Siemens and Wallbox, and the ChargeLab app also provides roaming-free access to public networks including SureCharge, Filgo, Nova Scotia Power and Ivy Charging Network.

Why it matters: The model shows how software platforms can monetise federal carbon schemes to subsidise home charging, potentially accelerating residential EVSE adoption without upfront hardware subsidies. For CPOs and fleet operators, ChargeLab's interoperability with OCPP hardware and multi-network app access illustrates the competitive pressure to offer value-added services beyond kilowatt-hours.

Ubitricity UK, a Shell subsidiary, is acquiring FM Conway's SureCharge network of 2,400 residential lamppost charge points operating at 4.8kW across London. The transition began in early February 2026, with all units expected to carry Shell Recharge branding within two months. The deal expands Ubitricity's footprint to over 14,000 charge points across 30 local authorities in the UK, reinforcing its position as the country's largest charging operator.

Why it matters: The acquisition consolidates slow AC charging infrastructure under a single major operator, giving Shell greater control of on street residential charging contracts with London boroughs. Procurement teams working with FM Conway's SureCharge sites will need to transition supplier relationships and potentially renegotiate terms under the Shell Recharge brand.
