Subaru to exit combustion engines in Europe by end of 2027, selling only EVs from 2028
Subaru will discontinue all internal combustion engine vehicles in Europe by the end of 2027, citing EU emissions and driver assistance regulations. The Outback will be withdrawn by end of 2025, followed by the Impreza, Crosstrek and Forester in 2027. From 2028, Subaru's European lineup will comprise three EVs developed with Toyota: the Solterra, E-Outback and Uncharted, which are variants of Toyota's bZ4X and C-HR+ models.
Why it matters
A major OEM exiting combustion in a key market accelerates the shift to EVs only, signalling stronger near term demand for public and workplace charging infrastructure across Europe. The move also underscores how regulatory pressure is reshaping product portfolios and driving investment in EV supply chains.
