ARENA commits AU$2 million to Alchemy Charge to ease home EV charging approvals in Australian apartments
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has committed AU$2 million (US$1.4 million) to Sydney-based Alchemy Charge for its AU$7.4 million Strata Assist programme, which combines a digital platform for managing strata approvals with SmartPoint charging hardware. The funding comes through ARENA's Driving the Nation Program, which also backs an Electric Vehicle Council-led national charging roadmap due in mid-2027. Alchemy cites UNSW City Futures Research Centre estimates that about 4.1 million Australians, around 15% of the population, live in strata properties, and the announcement follows Australia passing 500,000 battery electric vehicles in September.
Why it matters
Strata approvals, electrical requirements and installation costs remain a barrier for apartment residents, so a funded approvals platform paired with hardware points to a growing opportunity in multi-dwelling home charging. CPOs and installers should watch how Strata Assist and the 2027 roadmap shape demand for this segment.
