Austrian diagnostics firm AVILOO has published findings from more than 500,000 independent battery tests showing that State of Health can differ by up to 13.5% between individual examples of the same electric vehicle model. The AVILOO Certified EV Battery Report covers tests conducted between 2022 and 2026 across 20 popular EV models, measuring median State of Health at 31,069 miles, 62,137 miles and 93,206 miles using physical battery measurements rather than dashboard readings. The Tesla Model Y, for example, showed a median State of Health of 94.5% at 50,000 kilometres, falling to 90.3% at 150,000 kilometres.
Why it matters: Wide variation in battery health within the same model underscores the need for independent testing when procuring used EVs for fleets or assessing residual values in leasing programmes. For charge point operators, understanding real world battery degradation patterns across popular models can inform infrastructure planning and customer support strategies as the used EV market grows.
