43% of Indian two-wheeler buyers consider electric as e-scooter penetration reaches 24%, BCG reports
Nearly 43% of Indian two-wheeler buyers are actively considering switching to electric vehicles, up from 30% in 2024, according to a Boston Consulting Group report. Electric two-wheelers accounted for 9.9% of overall two-wheeler sales in April to August FY27, compared with 5.5% in FY24, while electric scooters specifically rose from 16.8% to 24.1% market share over the same period. Electric scooters recorded a compound annual growth rate of 54% between FY22 and FY26, with around 180,000 Indians purchasing their first electric two-wheeler every month.
Why it matters
The rapid mainstream adoption of electric two-wheelers in India signals a maturing market that could drive demand for distributed charging infrastructure across urban and suburban areas. With nearly one in four scooters sold now electric, charging point operators and infrastructure providers face growing opportunities to serve a consumer base moving beyond early adopters.
