Telangana topped the HERE and SBD EV Index 2026, climbing from 25th place in 2025, while Delhi dropped from fourth to 17th, according to a survey assessing 34 Indian states and union territories. The index scores regions on four equally weighted measures: public chargers relative to road length, average charger power, EV share of the vehicle fleet, and the ratio of EVs to public charging infrastructure, with each measure worth up to 25 points. India added more than 31,500 public charging points since the previous index, representing more than a fourfold increase.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 50 new electric buses on Thursday, bringing Delhi's public transport fleet to around 6,840 buses, of which 5,088 are electric and 1,752 run on CNG. The government plans to expand the total fleet to around 14,000 buses by 2028 to 2029. Two new public EV charging stations opened at Hasanpur and Ghazipur, and a new Automated Testing Station at Tehkhand Depot can now test up to 72,000 vehicles a year.
