Garfield County column highlights growing public charging network as Colorado funds Electric Byways

A Garfield Clean Energy column notes that PlugShare lists 77 public EV charging stations across six Garfield County municipalities, with 135 Level 2 ports and 43 DC fast ports, and the count is still rising. It says the Colorado Energy Office is funding charging infrastructure, including high-power DC fast charging along Interstate 70 and Colorado Highway 82 to build out the Electric Byways set out in the 2023 Colorado Electric Vehicle Plan. The piece argues that range concerns can be eased by matching daily driving to charging at home, work, shops and other locations, and that lacking a home charger does not rule out EV ownership.

Why it matters

State funded corridor build out on I-70 and Highway 82 signals continued public support for DC fast charging in rural and mountain Colorado, which is relevant to site selection and grant led procurement. Local demand messaging aimed at drivers without home charging also points to a case for workplace and destination Level 2 provision.
