German grid operator cuts rooftop solar approval from 12 days to 5 minutes with automated system
Netze BW, a distribution system operator in southern Germany, has reduced the approval time for rooftop solar connections from an average of 12 days to roughly 5 minutes when local grid capacity allows, according to PV Magazine. The automated review process, launched in late July 2026 after testing from November 2025, applies to photovoltaic systems up to 15 kilowatts and has processed more than 16,000 requests since launch, with over 5,000 applicants receiving instant automated approvals. The rapid responses serve as binding grid connection approvals and specify the connection point, though instant approvals only apply in network areas not considered capacity critical.
