Arizona opens first three NEVI funded fast charging stations after Trump freeze disrupted wider rollout
Arizona has brought online its first three NEVI funded DC fast charging stations in Tucson, Green Valley and Wellton, the initial sites in a plan to deploy up to 79 stations statewide using $76.5 million in federal funding. The state began taking bids in January 2024 and awarded contracts in August 2024, with construction starting in early 2026. A February 2025 Trump administration funding freeze suspended new NEVI commitments and led Arizona to cancel a solicitation for 35 additional charging locations, though reimbursements under existing agreements continued.
Why it matters
