Purple Bus deploys six Switch Mobility electric coaches on Nagpur to Chandrapur route, part of 50 vehicle order for India's Vidarbha region
Switch Mobility and Purple Bus launched an electric intercity service between Nagpur and Chandrapur, India, on 20 October 2026, with six Switch EiV12m electric coaches delivered as the first tranche of a 50 vehicle order for the Vidarbha region. The service, inaugurated by India's Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, marks the first private electric intercity bus operation in the region and follows a similar deployment on the Mumbai to Pune corridor in April 2026.
Why it matters
The 50 coach order signals growing private sector investment in electric intercity transport infrastructure in India, creating procurement opportunities for charging operators to support long distance electric bus routes across Maharashtra state.
